ZGClub supports Girl Child Network

ZG_Club_Members   This year (2009) our chosen charity is Girl Child Network and the proceeds from our annual dinner were directed to this cause . We are proud to annouce that from our annual dinner held on the 14th November 2009 we raised £1,553.00 for the gril child network. Betty Makoni founded the Girl Child Network (www.gcn.org.zw) in Zimbabwe in 1998. She and 10 high school girls established a girls club in a local high school to combat the kind of terrible sexual abuse that Betty herself had undergone and that many girls were enduring from teachers, relatives, and even, officials. Please join us in continuing to support this worthy cause.

ZGClub supports VIMBA

On the 2nd July 2009 the ZGClub donated £250 raised at our Inaugural 2008 Annual Ball to a small charity making a big difference called VIMBA. They are a recently established charity (2007) and have a passion and ultimate aim is to make a noticeable difference in the lives of those dying from the deprivation of basic human necessities in Zimbabwe. We look forward to continuing supporting them and such charities and causes for the foreseeable future.

Scholarship Programme

The ZGClub will be forming a charity focused on raising support for its own scholarship programme. Inspired by the great work the Zimbabwe Lost Children story has been for deprived young children and in line with the principles of our Charter, the Club has committed to do its part in helping to provide a steady platform for the country’s future.

Since stating our intent we are pleased and thank Mr. James Mee of Cygnet Hospital Stevenage, Dr Douglas Ncube, and Professor Steve Carter for their generous donation of stationary in support of this aim. For all those who are looking to show your support to this very worthy cause please email us at info@zgclub.org. We will be launching a scholarship online diary in the near future so you can see those who are being touched by your generosity.

ZGClub Supports the Ndoro Children’s Charity

The Board attended the Ndoro Children’s Charities (NCC) event in a bid to getting to know more about its work in Zimbabwe. The event centred around showcasing Zimbabwean entertainment. We also had the privilege of being in the company of Ms Taponeswa Mavunga of Atlantic Records who donated the CD’s and Jay-Z merchandise at our annual dinner. The Charity is an international charity dedicated to supporting under privileged children in the poorest parts of the world, with an initial focus on Zimbabwe. Their aim to provide the support and resources for the children to develop and grow through education and stability.

the Homes in Zimbabwe Charity

Homes in Zimbabwe (HIZ) aim to feed 2,500 frail, elderly people in Harare and Bulawayo. Without HIZ many would starve. Common to all is that of late the Zimbabwean economy has collapsed. Local currency has been replaced by the US$, a currency out of reach to most old people. As a result pensions and savings have no value. Food is prohibitively expensive and thousands of elderly find themselves without family, alone and unable to buy food. Homes in Zimbabwe (Registered charity no 1104512) provides vital food to residential homes. It also runs a soup kitchen and delivers food packs to elderly people struggling to survive in their own homes. It costs on average £58 to buy food for one elderly person for a month.
